Jean Boulton, PhD
Jean Boulton, PhD is a Visiting Academic at the Universities of Bath and Cranfield and a recent Research Fellow with Stellenbosch Institute of Advanced Studies. Originally a physicist, her research and consultancy is grounded in complexity theory and she regularly teaches at Masters level – in management and social science – at a number of universities and institutes. She is lead author of Embracing Complexity (2015:OUP). She is currently writing a further book on complexity, connecting the ideas more firmly to process thinking and exploring how intention, values, anticipation and memory move complexity beyond realism. She is keenly interested in how ‘embracing complexity’ creates fresh thinking around theories of change – of vital importance in a world of increasing inequality, coupled with political and environmental instability.
