Background: The emergency hospitalization unit was added to the hospital several years ago but never properly integrated into the overall on-site (architectural) procedural framework of the hospital. Therefore a strategy for the emergency hospitalization unit of the French armed forces hospital HIA Laveran (Hôpital d’instruction des armées Laveran) in Marseille was needed.
Objectives and Results: In the framework of partnership with the Marseille-based company HSE Vision, eusg carried out a five-day participatory workshop. For the creation of the strategy, the workshop took into account the perspectives of all of the unit’s internal and external stakeholders and created an enhanced understanding of the systemic interconnectedness of the emergency hospitalization unit’s processes thus contributing to a better understanding of the potential role the unit could play for the overall economic success of the hospital. Different strategic options were evaluated based on a set of criteria agreed upon by the participants of the workshop. The selected approach was subsequently converted into a high level action plan that was presented to the hospital’s senior management.
