Background: Every year since 1998, the Eschborn Dialogue has turned the spotlight on a topical issue in the field of international cooperation. The two-day event provides a forum for international experts to exchange knowledge and experience in panel discussions and workshops. Its distinctive character stems from its clear thematic focus, high-level guest speakers and unusual event formats. Participants also have ample opportunity to network during the relaxing evening event.

Objectives and Results: Eusg co-moderated GIZ annual dialogue on “Diversity: the Culture Factor”. Diversity is essential to development. Diversity is about having alternatives; it’s about openness and opportunities for growth. But what role does culture play in development? More than 450 experts met at this year’s Eschborn Dialogue to explore the practical and theoretical challenges of bringing culture and development together and to discuss about diversity as culture factor. Culturally sensitive approaches have a particularly sustainable impact on a country or region’s economic, political and social development. For international cooperation to be successful, it must take into account the local culture.
